Anna Hein, UALA's Board Member and Treasurer, died last week in Fox Hospital after a sudden turn for the worse following a long decline. She will be sorely missed by her friends, family, and church and all who knew her deep commitment to her community.

She was a unique personality with a strong sense of right and wrong and a willingness to voice her opinion. The sharp tongue sometimes hid the warm heart. Anna cared deeply for what she believed in and she followed it up with action. Whatever and wherever the fray- a town hall meeting, a community forum, a JLC informational meeting, a protest in Albany, a DEC hearing – Anna was there . . . and Anna was going to be heard.

She was a proper lady. Many of our UALA members witnessed that sense of propriety, Anna was the one who would answer the membership questions, return over-payments of membership dues, chat on the phone with out-of-town members, send sympathy cards when someone died.

That was what a proper organization did and Anna made sure things were done right.

Anna was a neighbor and a friend. We worked well together. As fellow octogenarians, we shared memories of growing up in the Forties and Fifties and had a lot of laughs. And after a particularly tough meeting during the Gas Wars, sometimes a drink.

Goodbye,Anna. You will be missed!
